Darren Chappell in his own words. " I am the State Representative of the 137th District, which includes Fair Grove. I have been looking into this proposal, and I frankly do not believe there is much appetite for moving forward. The vast majority of Constituents from whom I've heard are against the idea, and question the wisdom of a plan being made before we even know what the needs might be, once I-44 and Hwy 13 renovations are finished. I agree.
Furthermore, I sit on the Budget Committee, and will not be interested in funding a study for a solution to a problem we don't even know we have yet. I would need a LOT more information before I could consider changing that position.

James River Freeway North Loop Extension Proposal
How did we get here?
Word of a James River North Loop began circulating online and was followed by a town meeting in Willard, MO on August 8th, 2024. That night it was revealed through the state representative and Greene County Commissioners present that the James River North Loop is not a rumor. It is in fact a real project that has been placed on the MoDOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) Tier 1 (most important) unfunded needs list. The study proposed to determine the need for the James River North Loop would cost taxpayers an estimated $1.5 million dollars. However, it was revealed by MoDOT that the study could also be funded by corporations or other interested parties with their own agenda.
saveMOfarms.com is dedicated to the truth that Northwest Greene County is one of the final truly rural areas left in Greene County. It is home to generational farmers, families, and neighborhoods that all love their rural landscape. The community overwhelmingly opposes the idea of the James River Freeway North Loop. Voters can only assume based on the information that has been shared by our elected officials that this project doesn't focus on rural needs but on corporate desires regardless of how it affects the residents of Northwest Greene County. It does not serve the best interest of the rural community that it will be decimating. One cannot ignore the detrimental impact an infrastructure project of this magnitude would incur — irreplaceable loss of fertile land, displacement of farmers, disruption of ecosystems, and area wildlife. Not to forget, agriculture is a significant contributor to Missouri’s economy, with the industry and related industries accounting for nearly 400,000 jobs in the state (Missouri Department of Agriculture, 2021). In 2020, Missouri was ranked in the top 5 states in the nation for number of farms (2nd), hay production (2nd), Beef Cows (3rd), Rice Production (4th),
Goats (5th).
We urge our fellow residents, friends, and neighbors to stand together and oppose the extension of the James River Freeway through our precious community.
